Rain Drops

RAIN DROPS

It was raining cats and dogs. The rain drops were falling on the roof just like bullets. I was in my room, sitting on a brown wooden chair while reading a love novel which had been dog eared. Suddenly, I accidentally dropped the novel on the floor as the thunder clapped really loud. I stood up and closed the long red curtains. As I picked up the novel, a piece of picture fell on the floor. I picked up the picture and I was dumbfounded. It was a picture of me with a handsome young man. “Oh, Sebastian… if only you didn’t involve in the accident on that faithful night.” I whispered to myself. My eyes started to become watery as the memories of me and Sebastian started to sting like a violent slap across my face.

I could still remember the day that I met Sebastian. It was a bright sunny day. The blue sky was filled with white fluffy clouds. I was in the university, trying to find the tutorial room. I tried to ask some of the girls, but they only ignored me. I was really pissed off with them. As I wandering around the building, suddenly, I bumped to something. I fell on the floor and moaned painfully. “Oh dear, are you okay miss?” The man asked. As I opened my eyes, I saw Sebastian, looking at me anxiously. I was speechless for a while. “I…I’m fine” I answered. He helped me to stand up and apologized. “Please to meet you. My name is Sebastian Micelles.” He introduced himself while smiling happily. “Please to meet you. My name is Callie Monroe.” We shook our hands. “Do you know where’s the tutorial room is?” I asked, hopping that he would help me. “Sure! I wanted to go there too. Shall we go there together?” He asked politely. “Okay!” I answered cheerfully. We both went to the tutorial room together while chatting together happily.

Sebastian was every inch a gentleman and he was more generous than anything else. He was polite, sympathetic, honest, and has a good word for everybody. He has an impressive personality and was very handsome. Throughout, he has been the best student in our class. He was not only intelligent but very industrious. Consequently, he was doubly blessed, possessing wit and the will to use it. He was very nice to me. He never felt embarrass to sit beside me in class. We always studied together. He never mad at me whenever I did something wrong like spilt a cup of hot coffee on his pants. You could say that he was everything that a girl would ever dream off. He always cares about me since I was far away from my hometown. I started to like him more than just a friend. I wanted to confess my felling towards him but I was really afraid if he would reject me just like he did to some of the girls in our campus. After all, a city guy like him and a country girl like me.

We had been friends for almost a year. On a White Day, which was on 14th March 1999, Sebastian confessed his love to me. It was a beautiful night at the park near our university. The stars were shinning like diamonds as it scattered on the dark sky. The full moon was shining vividly. The breeze was blowing gently, brushing my face. I was sitting with Sebastian on a brown wooden bench while enjoying the night. Suddenly, Sebastian stood up and looked at me with a lovely smile. I was speechless and shock when he confess his love to me. He kneels down on the ground and held my right hand while smiling at me. I started to blush madly. “So what will you say? Would you want to be my girl?” ask Sebastian nervously. My heart was overwhelmed with joy. “Yes! I do! A million times! I do!” I answered as I hugged him tightly.

I felt like I’m the luckiest girl on the planet whenever I’m with him. Two months later, our love was put into a test. Sebastian and I were in the classroom when suddenly, a new girl joined in the class. Sebastian was shock when he saw the girl. He almost dropped his jaw on the ground. “Clair…” Sebastian whispered. I looked at Sebastian curiously. I started to become suspicious with Sebastian. I tried to ask Sebastian about Clair but Sebastian only said that there was nothing between them at all. They were only friends.  “She was my ex-girlfriend, Callie. I don’t have any attention to be with her again.” Sebastian explained firmly to me. I believed him. After all, he was my boyfriend.

One day, I was feeling very bored and I wanted to buy some stationery. So, I called Sebastian to accompany me. “Hey, hubby! Let’s go to the mall!” I said cheerfully. “Oh, sorry, babe. I’m a bit busy right now. John might kill me if I don’t finish this assignment.” Sebastian apologizes. “Oh, that’s okay.” I said cheerfully. I hung up the phone and grabbed the keys on the table.

After I finished buying some stationery, I stopped by an ice-cream stall. “Hmm… I felt like eating a chocolate sundae!” I whispered to myself. I went to the stall and bought a delicious cold chocolate ice-cream. As I was wandering around the mall while enjoying my ice-cream, suddenly, I saw Sebastian and Clair, chatting and having fun together in a cafe. I was very shock and dropped my ice-cream on the floor. My heart started to burn with anger and hatred. I marched towards them. Sebastian and Clair looked at me with a shock as if they just saw a ghost. “So, this is your work that John asked you to do.” I scolded Sebastian angrily while hanging my head low. Sebastian stood up quickly and tried to calm me down. Clair only wore her worry look. “It’s not what you think, Callie! Clair and I were just…” Before Sebastian could finish his sentence, I gave him a pang. A painful slap stung Sebastian’s left cheek. Sebastian and Clair were dumbfounded. “You slapped me?” said Sebastian in disbelieve. I looked at him with watery eyes. “Gee… Thanks for the heartbreak!” I shouted. Pearls of tears started to roll down my cheeks. Clair tried to explain but I just ignored her. I left the café quickly and went home.

That night, as I was trying to relax and forget about the whole incident, I heard a knocked at the door. I went to the door and opened it quickly. “Oh… It’s you” I looked at Sebastian gloomily and went into the living room. “What do you want? Where’s your beloved, Clair?” I asked while smirking. Sebastian approached me. “Listen to me, Callie… There’s nothing between me and Clair. We were just chatting.” explained Sebastian anxiously. “Yeah, right…” Sebastian held my hand. “It’s the truth, Callie! Why should I lie to you?” I parried his hand. “You’ve just lied to me, remember?!” I scolded him angrily. “I didn’t lie to you!” Sebastian explained. He put his arms around my waist from my back and hugged me tightly. I only hung my head low. “It’s the truth, Callie. I did finish my work just like John asked me to do. When I was about to see John at the café, I saw Clair. She was going to meet John too. That’s why we’re both wait for him together.” Sebastian explained with a soft and soothing voice. I turned around and pushed Sebastian really hard. Sebastian moved backwards. “Liar!” I snarled at him while gazing at him angrily. He sighed and turned around. “If you don’t believe me, then read this.” Sebastian put a white envelope on a brown wooden table. “It’s a letter from Clair…” said Sebastian gloomily while looking at me. “I’ll see you later” said Sebastian as he left the house and closed the door. I looked at the white enveloped angrily. I took the envelope and read the content. I was shock when I read the letter. It seems that Clair was trying to get back with Sebastian but Sebastian refused. “I’m sorry, Clair. I really love Callie so much. It’s the first time in my life that I meet a wonderful girl like her. I don’t think I can bare the pain if I make her cry.” That’s what Sebastian told Clair. My hands started to tremble. I dropped the letter on the floor and ran out from home, trying to catch up with Sebastian.

I searched high and low, trying to find Sebastian. As I saw Sebastian crossed the road, I shouted his name. He stopped in the middle of the road and looked at me curiously. “I’m really sorry! I’ve should listen to you! Please don’t leave me!” Tears of regret started to roll down my cheeks. Sebastian looked at me anxiously. “I really love you! Truly … Love you…” I confess to him while smiling gloomily. Sebastian was about to run to me but, suddenly, a car knocked him down. Sebastian fell on the ground. “No!” I screamed loudly and ran towards him. I sank on my knees and held Sebastian’s hand. Blood ooze out from his mouth. His face was badly injured. “Sebastian! Don’t leave me alone! Please!” I pleaded. Sebastian only smiled while looking at me. It’s started to rain heavily. “I’m really… sorry… Callie” Sebastian apologizes. He was soon become unconscious. I shook his body vigorously, trying to wake Sebastian up. Fifteen minutes later, the ambulance came and took Sebastian to the hospital.

I combed my cloudy memories of Sebastian away as the door was opened. “Mummy! Mummy! Mummy!” called Flora, my five-year-old daughter, as she ran towards me while holding her doll. “Come quick! Come quick!” said Train, my six-year-old son, as he ran towards me. They both pulled my hands. “What’s wrong, my dear?” I asked curiously. “Daddy is back! Let’s eat together!” said Flora cheerfully. I giggled. “Okay, okay… Let’s go.” They both dragged me out from the room.

As we reached the kitchen, I saw Sebastian, preparing dinner for us. I looked at him while smiling happily. Sebastian looked at me curiously. “What’s the matter, honey?” I approached him and hugged him. “Hey, hubby. Do you love me?” I asked while smiling. “Of course I love you… What’s wrong?” Sebastian asked while looking at me gloomily. I giggled happily. “It’s really nothing.” I smiled happily while snuggling in his arms. I released him and set the table. “Play with us, daddy!” Train pleaded while shaking Sebastian’s right arm. Sebastian sighed. “Okay.” said Sebastian while smiling. I only looked at a big scar on his forehead while setting the table. The scar wouldn’t be there if only he didn’t get hit by the car on that faithful night. But even so, he stills the same Sebastian that I met in college. To me, looks is not that’s really matter. After all “Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder”.
